WISH HILL (TEMENNI TEPESI)
The pearl of the Cappadocia, amazing city, famous Wish Hill (Temenni Tepesi in Turkish) is crowned on Urgup, district of Nevsehir. Its altitude above sea level is approximately 1.140 m in high. Thanks to its marvellous geopolitical position, this extraordinary hill dominates whole city which creates a magical and sweeping ambiance for the visitors.
Additionally, today from past, this fascinating hill was used many different aims such as for security, worship and government reasons. Therefore it has been called various names in every period like Temennos (in Hittites period), Arslangazi Rock (Pre-Proclamation of Republic) and Temenni Hill (today).
Moreover, Wish Hill was thought as a pretty holy place in ancient era due to its high position reflecting closeness to God. Thus, there are found various graves in this incredible hill which symbolizes us that numerous people wanted to be buried the blessed hill after they died. There are also located two important large tomb (mausoleum) presumed by people belonging to Seljuk Sultan Rüknettin Kılıçarslan IV and Alaaddin Keykubat III. But it is not clear. Actually, as a result of examinations, it was discovered that those unknown mausoleums were built by Muhammet Vecihi Pasha in between 1857 and 1858, Ottoman period.

There is also a Saint Yeorgios Church situated in the south of this natural masterpiece. This glorious church was made by Christians for the sake of great Saint Yeorgios in order to reflect their respectability him.
Today surrounded by discos, bars, tea houses and cafes, Temenni Hill grabs the tourists; when famous French architect Felix Marie Charles Texier visited here, he was entranced due to its brilliance hence, he drew the picture of the splendid hill.

There is a legend about it; according to the story, once upon a time a soldier serving the Russian army was captured by Ottomans. He was imprisoned the castle located on hill. He prayed and wished to be free here. His demand was accepted, step by step, he won the Sultan’s trust and affection. Eventually, he was released. Since that event, the people come and make a wish in the hill which is the reason of its named ‘’Wish’’.
