SAFRANBOLU WATCHTOWER
Admirable, pupil of Safranbolu, sample of great architecture style, famous Safranbolu Watchtower was built grand vizier Izzet Mehmet Pasha in ‘’Zefrenbolu Town’’ (old name of Safranbolu), 1797, the period of Ottoman Sultan Selim III.
The city where time has stood still, reflecting the voice of past to our day, has a deep and meaningful history. It has witnessed many important events such as ‘’Decline of the Ottoman Empire’’, ‘’ Turkish War of Independence’’, and ‘’Abandonment of Rums to town ‘’and ‘’Proclamation of the Republic’’.
There is an interesting story about it; according to a rumour, favourite vizier, İzzet Mehmet Pasha of Safranbolu said the public ‘’ I will give magnificent clock as a present you. It will call both your homes and workplaces at the same time’’. Very next day, the people woke up the noise of the enchanting watch brought from London, England.

ARCHITECTURE
The Watchtower, the first clock in Turkey, rectangular parallelepiped shaped, approximately 8-10 m in high was made of face stone which is required to be a significant craftsmanship. Every side of the building includes two for each rectangle planned window reflecting the dreamy atmosphere.
Moreover, it was made the loopholes to light the stairs with 42 steps in the some parts of the tower. The location of the breath-taking structure is also well known as Hıdırlık Hill which has a wonderful landscape, extraordinary ambiance and miraculous atmosphere for the visitors.
The people can see the original introduction about this glorious watch calling in every half an hour. Symbolizing Classic Ottoman City Architecture, the priceless construction was surrogated with famous Safranbolu Houses taking a place in the list of UNESCO World Heritage City since 1994.
At the moment, it still works as a result of being renovated by the relevant persons.
