RED COURT (RED HALL)
The Red Court or Red Hall is about 1 kms far way to the center of Bergama on the way to Acropolis with a splendid view from upper town. The Red Hall is a unique structure in which located symmetrically on both sides of the basilica fitted with two circular towers.
The sanctuary has been popularly known as “ Red Court “ among the local inhabitants of Bergama because of its red bricks and has a large front courtyard. The courtyard was enclosed by high walls. It is accepted that the interior part was surrounded by colonnades.The temple has three monumental gates on which is the main entrance at the west side of the courtyard still exists.
Due to the importance given to the Egyptian Gods by the Romans, the temple was built at main centre of Pergamum city. Obstacle to integration into the courtyard of the temple, which is still being used today in Selinos river, water tunnels have been built to water the fields for growing crops.

There has not been any windows at the rear part of the cult statue of the half-light window in order to ensure that Sacred space lit only by the front windows. Some round on the sides of buildings and courtyards that stretch es under the stairs as secret passageways are located. Probably the temple priest were making suggestions coming from the gateway of rose to the head of the cult statue in the name of the Egyptina God Serapis to the listeners in the courtyard.It is said that the temple probably was built 2nd C AD during the reign of Emperor Hadrian and dedicated to Egyptian gods Isis and Serapis based on the data of the temple cult and art history.
It is also belived that the Red Hall was the home of the Pergamon Chruch mentioned in the book of Reveletion. When John the evangelist paid a visit to Pergamon as the third of the seven churches of Gospel, there was no permanent church building in the town due to the restriction but later Christianity became free religion of the Roman empire and the Red Court became a main church to be used for belivers in the name of Christ.
Some historians call this building as “Little Hagia Sophia” justify with symmetrical towers and justify them with glory of the monumental work. One of the towers was later converted into a mosque in Ottoman period on which is better condition compared to the other.The ruined tower was used as a prison during the Ottoman Empire.The Red Hall is one the cultural heritageedifices of Bergama today which is visited by millions of visitors each year.
