GOLDEN HORN (HALIC)
Golden Horn (Halic) hosted very important civilisations since Ancient ages, that natural wonder harbour is located in the southeast of Catalca Peninsula and it is an inlet separating Beyoglu plateaus.
Golden Horn (Haliç in Turkish) is an inland port placed in between cities of Beyoglu and the other districts of Istanbul. Also surrogated by Eyüp, Kasımpasha, many fascinating gardens and mansions such as Sepetçiler Pavilion and Aynalı Kavak Pavlion, that charming port was called as Khrysokeras (Altınboynuz in Turkish) due to its horn shape in Byzantine Era while it was named as Halic-i Konstantiniye in Ottoman Period.
Also it takes its golden name from the dreamy landscape of sea created by the solar rays. Today you can see that unique view in a sunny day. You feel as if you are located in a treasure of Prophet Solomon ıf you look at that charming sea.

The people from Spain, Portuguese, Mexico and other countries settled and reflected their cultures,traditions; A hundred years ago, the people living around Haliç made use of its natural fruitful opportunity. Therefore ıt is not only the crown of Istanbul but also has very significant role about trading because it is a natural harbour. That perfect harbour is approximately 8 km long, and the widest part(700 meters) is the entrance from the Bosphorus. Two famous streams which are named Kagıthane (Barbyzes) and Alibey (Kydaros) drain into this inlet at its far end. Additionally, there are no currents and tides here. It includes various species of fish, which symbolizes the fertility of Golden Horn.
Because of that Haliç (Golden Horn) is highly protected against the wind, it appropriate for the building of shipyard.

THE HISTORY OF GOLDEN HORN
After the Byzantines found their Empire here, they encircled the city with chains to prevent any attack from other countries. Until 1203, it has not conquered by any enemy with ships. Firstly, as a result of fourth Crusades, it was captured. Secondly, when Great Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the Conqueror conquered Istanbul in 1453, he used the Haliç as a way by passing his ships upon it in one night.
Especially, with his magnifical vision, Fatih Sultan Mehmet found Boat Organisation to prevent marine pollution due to alluvions coming from Alibey and Kagıthane streams. So he cared about it that he stated a rescript which declared the pasture of bovine animals was prohibited around Haliç. Furthermore, Golden Horn begun to gain very significant prestige and used as a rest place.
But in the middle of 1830s, to keep up with the Industrial Revoluation, many factories was found around it which caused that fascinating port to pollute and to considerably damage.
After the 1994, a large extent project was organised to clean and repair here. Since then it look better and charming with its fabulous sight and the nature.
MYTHOLOGY ABOUT GOLDEN HORN
According to legend, Zeus (Jupiter in Rome Mythology), a main God raped a maiden named IO. To protect from his jealous wife Hera, he turned her into a white cow. But after Hera learn that, he sent a horse fly for IO to revenge them. She begun hysterically to run by passing over Bosphorosus/todays Bosphorus (means inek Geciti in Turkish). By hitting her horn to the land, she creates the slits and in time there was fulled the water of sea and happens an inlet named Golden Horn.
